09 Feb Friday Night Cocktail…French 75 (with crushed hail stones)
This cocktail is a bit special. One, because it is delicious and a lot of fun, and two because it contains some rather special hail stones.
I shall explain. Last August, there was a freak storm over the vineyard. It rained and it hailed, damaging the vines so badly that Vincent lost the majority of his crop. These hail stones were so lethal that they also ruined every single roof top in a nearby village and killed a rat in the courtyard by stoning it to death.
So Vincent kept a glass full of these hail stones in his freezer. Naturally.
6 months later and they came in marvellously handy when we had run out of ice for our cocktails.
So here’s the recipe:
Crushed ice
One shot of gin
Juice of half a lemon
Tsp of sugar
Sparkling Wine/Champagne
Pour the ice, gin, lemon and sugar into the glass and stir lightly. Top up with champagne and garnish with a lemon slice, and there you have it, a refreshingly tart yet elegant cocktail. Cheers!
Warning, this can get you rather drunk, so maybe prepare some orange cake before hand, made for us by the lovely Whitney!
Java x
